Tivoli Gardens

My brother Scott Haskins and his wife, Diana came to visit us here in Rome, and we were able to visit Tivoli Gardens, also known as Villa D'este.  This is a beautiful villa located outside of Rome, with acres and acres of gardens and fountains!

As we entered the Villa, we first came to this beautiful piazza!

This was absolutely AMAZING!!!  This is called the "100 Fountains", Fountain......This was the longest fountain we had ever seen!!!  It was 100 yards long and very beautiful!!!

This is Larry and me with my brother Scott.  There were statues and fountains everywhere!
This is in the "backyard".....right next to the Villa........
Inside of the Villa, there were frescos, murals and original paintings everywhere!  The ceilings were vaulted and very high!

Some of the frescos dated back many hundreds of years!  It was wonderful to have Scott there to tell us about the paintings, and the history behind all of the artwork!!!

There were pools and fountains everywhere and huge fish !!!  The truly amazing thing about this garden, is the water system was developed many hundreds of years ago, and it is still functioning today!

                                       The views were spectacular!!!
As we walked down the stairs in the garden, there was running water even on the "handrails"!!!  The stairs were very interesting.....almost more like a ramp, so that the people could view the gardens while on horseback!
This was actually a little chapel, with an alter, where the people would be able to go and pray.  The doorways are very interesting, and as you can see, they are made of the original wood, and very small and recessed deeply into the wall.
This is located outside, near the largest waterfall and in the center section, the door opens at 2:00 p.m. everyday and an open pipe organ plays by water power!!!

This (believe it or not) is not the largest fountain!!!  There are very large statues on the upper level in the center and right and left of the waterfall!
Get ready to be blown away!!!  These fountains were spectacular!!!
Now this was impressive and huge!!!  The huge waterfall behind the tree (great photography, I know) was roaring.....it was so huge!!!

This is my brother, Scott, enjoying the shade and beauty of the gardens!!!

Some of the statues were half human half beast.....This statue was part of a fountain, but not working the day we were there!  The mosaic tiles were also very beautiful!

We had a wonderful day!!!

Love to all,  Lynne and Larry

  1. While we were in Rome with Larry and Lynne, Diana and I went through La Galleria Nazionale dell'Arte Moderna. If you want to see a quick video of that walk through the museum click here, or if the link doesn't work, copy and paste it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QF3QaJihNS8
